Campaigns
When Brixton is under pressure, we organise.
We do not campaign for communities. We campaign with them.
Brixton Coalition works with residents, traders, campaigners and community organisations to turn shared problems into collective action.
Some issues can be resolved through advice or advocacy. Others require something bigger: organising people, gathering evidence, building public support, engaging decision-makers and, where necessary, using legal or political pressure.
Our campaigns are rooted in the people directly affected.
Homes We Deserve
Five demands for a fairer housing system in Lambeth.
Too many residents are living with unsafe homes, delayed repairs, insecure housing, temporary accommodation and systems that can be extremely difficult to navigate. Homes We Deserve is our resident-led housing campaign, shaped through community organising and lived experience, bringing residents together around five clear demands for a housing system that is safer, fairer and more accountable.
Homes We Deserve is our resident-led housing campaign, shaped through community organising and lived experience.
The campaign is built around five key demands covering:
better accountability and resident involvement
a stronger and more responsive repairs system
recognition of hidden homelessness
fairer housing support
safer and more suitable housing for people at greatest risk
Our community assemblies provide a space for residents to share what is happening, identify common patterns and help shape the campaign as it develops.
Protecting Brixton’s Traders
Independent businesses should have a place in Brixton’s future.
Brixton’s traders are not simply businesses.
They provide jobs, community spaces, relationships, culture and decades of local history.
When traders face displacement, redevelopment or sudden changes to their livelihoods, Brixton Coalition helps people organise collectively.
Our work can include bringing traders together, gathering evidence, coordinating professional and legal support, engaging landlords and public institutions, building public campaigns and finding practical solutions during periods of uncertainty.
Brixton Plaza
Our work with Brixton Plaza traders showed what coordinated community action can achieve.
The Coalition worked alongside traders facing displacement, helping bring together legal action, public campaigning, political engagement, communications and practical support.
The campaign also helped establish relationships and experience that can now support other traders facing similar pressures.
Every campaign should leave the community better prepared for the next one.
