What is the Brixton Coalition?

Back the Brixton Coalition

Built in Brixton. Powered by Brixton.

Brixton Coalition brings together residents, traders, community organisations, campaigners and local institutions to protect what matters, solve problems collectively and build a stronger Brixton.

We organise around the issues affecting our communities — from protecting independent traders and challenging displacement, to housing advocacy, community campaigns, mutual aid and creating spaces where people can come together and act.

But the Coalition is about more than responding to crises.

We are building the relationships, resources and community infrastructure that allow Brixton to become more connected, more resilient and more able to shape its own future.

That means sharing skills. Supporting local organisations. Connecting people who can help one another. Mobilising around common problems. Protecting Brixton’s culture and independent economy. And making sure that the knowledge, resources and power already within our communities can be used collectively.

Brixton has enormous strength already. Our job is to connect it.

What We Offer?

What We Do

We’re more than a network — we’re building the infrastructure for Brixton to act together.

  • Community Organising & Campaigns – We bring residents, traders, community groups and campaigners together around shared issues, turning individual concerns into collective action.

  • Advice & Advocacy – We support people facing housing, benefits, council and other local issues, helping them navigate systems and connect with the right support.

  • Mutual Aid & Shared Resources – We help connect people, skills, spaces, time and practical resources so Brixton can support itself more effectively.

  • Local Economy & Trader Support – We stand with independent traders, support community businesses and work to keep more opportunity, ownership and economic power within Brixton.

  • Community Events & Assemblies – We create spaces for people to meet, organise, celebrate, raise funds and shape priorities together.

  • Culture & Community Identity – We champion Brixton’s history, creativity and multicultural character while supporting the communities that continue to shape it.

Our role is simple: connect Brixton’s existing strength and turn it into collective power.

Community in Action

Community Assemblies

We’re bringing residents together to identify shared housing problems, hear directly from affected communities and turn those experiences into collective action. Our assemblies help shape campaigns, advocacy and practical demands for change.

Protecting Traders & Community Spaces

We work alongside local traders, residents and community groups when businesses or spaces are under threat. From Brixton Plaza onwards, we’ve helped coordinate campaigning, advocacy, legal support and practical action.

Advice & Advocacy

Our community advice work supports residents facing housing, benefits, immigration and local service issues. We help people understand their options, navigate difficult systems and connect with the right support where specialist help is needed.

Housing Justice Now

We’re building a resident-led campaign for a fairer housing system in Lambeth. Through community assemblies and lived experience, we’ve developed five key demands addressing repairs, hidden homelessness, housing support, vulnerable residents and greater community accountability.
